Fujifilm XF 50mm F1.0 R WR Sample Images

Ahead of our final review, here are some full-size sample JPEG images taken with the brand new Fujifilm XF 50mm F1.0 R WR lens. The XF 50mm F1.0 is the fastest lens currently available for Fujifilm's range of APS-C sensor mirrorless cameras, and the world's fastest mirrorless lens with auto-focus.

Fujifilm XF 50mm F1.0 R WR is World's Fastest Mirrorless Auto-focus Lens

3 Sep 2020 - 06:00 from feeds2.feedburner.com

The new Fujifilm XF 50mm F1.0 R WR is the first ever F1.0 auto-focus lens for mirrorless cameras.

Offering an equivalent focal length of 75mm in 35mm full-frame terms, it's ideal for portrait photography.

It weighs 845g, more than twice the weight of the similar XF 56mm F1.2 lens (405g), and measures 87x103.5mm (Diameter x Length). The filter size is 77mm.

Although undoubtedly a big, heavy lens, it still feels well-balanced on the X-T4 camera, even without a battery grip fitted.

The optical construction is 12 elements in 9 groups, including 1 aspherical element and 2 ED elements.

It's weather and dust resistant with seals in 11 different places, and works down to -10 degrees.

There are 9 rounded aperture blades for more attractive bokeh. Coupled with the maximum F1.0 aperture, this lens definitely offers the best bokeh of any XF optic.

At F1.0, the spherical aberration is intentionally left to soften the bokeh. At F1.2, the resolution is equivalent to the XF 56mm F1.2. At F2, vignetting is reduced like the XF 90mm F2.

Lens breathing is minimal. Fujifilm have officially measured it at 0.095%.

Auto-focusing was a little hesitant on the pre-production sample that Fujifilm sent us. The face and eye detection worked very well to improve the focus accuracy, though, even when shooting wide-open at f/1.0.

The minimum focus distance is 0.7m and the maximum magnification is 0.08x, which is almost identical to the XF 56mm F1.2.

The Fujifilm XF 50mm F1.0 R WR will be available on 24th September priced at 1499 / $1499 / 1599.

We've already been out shooting with the XF 50mm F1.0 - take a look at a gallery of sample images and some hands-on photos of the lens mounted on an X-T4 camera body.

Panasonic Lumix S1, S1H and S1R Firmware Updates

2 Sep 2020 - 15:00 from feeds2.feedburner.com

Panasonic have announced new firmware update programs for the Lumix S1, S1H and S1R cameras by the end of 2020.

The new firmware will enable the Panasonic S1R to record 5K video, and bring the enhanced AF technology and performance of the new Lumix S5 to the Panasonic S1, Panasonic S1H and the S1R.

Panasonic Lumix S5 is the New Full-Frame GH5

2 Sep 2020 - 15:00 from feeds2.feedburner.com

The new Panasonic S5 mirrorless camera is smaller and lighter than the popular GH5, but with a full-frame sensor rather than a much smaller Micro Four Thirds one!

It even has exactly the same 24.2 megapixel sensor as the much more expensive S1H model.

The Lumix S5 offers 4K 60p 4:2:0 internal video recording (with small crop), making it the only sub-2000 camera to offer this.

Internal 10-bit video is available with a 30 minute time limit, tested at 40-degrees (almost double the temperature of some rivals).

You can then re-record for another 30 mins straight-away, and so on. In 8-bit, there is no recording time limit at all.

The full V-Log profile is pre-installed on the Panasonic S5 - it's not the light version or a paid upgrade - offering 14-stops of dynamic range.

You can switch between NTSC/PAL modes at any time without having to reformat the memory card or power down the camera.

The Panasonic Lumix S5 still uses contrast-based auto-focusing with DFD technology, but Panasonic claim that a brand new algorithm means that Face/Eye/Head AF is greatly improved.

There's no All-Intra codec - LongGOP instead - and the S5 uses a Micro HDMI port rather than a standard one.

Anamorphic 4K is included, as is automatic dual native ISO (you can't manually turn this feature on and off though). 4:3 Anamorphic mode is recorded in super-35mm crop mode.

There's a free-angle LCD screen on the back, 6.5 stops of in-body image stabilisation, and dual SD card slots

The Panasonic S5 can shoot 96 megapixel jpegs or raw files in the clever hi-resolution mode.

There are now 7 different 4K 10-bit cameras in Panasonic's extensive line-up. The S1H actually outsold the Panasonic S1 in 2019, despite only selling for 6 months rather than 12.

The Sony A7III, Canon EOS R and Nikon Z5 are the S5's main rivals.

The Panasonic Lumix S5 is priced at 1799 body only or 1999 with the 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens, and it will ship mid-end September 2020.

In addition, Panasonic have unveiled a new firmware roadmap for the end-2020.

There's also an updated lens roadmap with an 85mm F1.8 lens due to be shipped by November and costing less than $1000. 24mm, 35mm and 50mm F1.8 lenses are the other new additions, along with a 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 telephoto zoom.

Canon EOS R5 Firmware Version 1.1.0 Addresses Overheating Issues

27 Aug 2020 - 09:30 from feeds2.feedburner.com

Firmware version 1.1.0 for the Canon EOS R5 camera improves temperature detection and video recording time control, no longer disables the overheat control when using an external monitor/recorder, and improves the accuracy of remaining movie recording time display in situations where the camera is frequently turned on and off between recording consecutive, short videos.

The 1.1.0 EOS R5 firmware update is available to download from today, 27 August 2020. The EOS R6 camera will also benefit from these fixes in a future update.

In addition, Canon have announced plans to add extra features to the EOS R5 and the EOS-1D X Mark III via a series of future firmware updates for those models, including the addition of Canon Log 3 and 120fps Full HD recording for the EOS R5.
